Volunteer for See Jane Run
What do race volunteers do?
The primary job of all race volunteers is to make sure the athletes and spectators have fun and stay safe.
There are a number of ways you can help out! Below are some examples of key positions you'll see at most triathlons, road running races and/or bike rides/races:
• Packet Stuffing – Fill race packets with fliers and samples from our sponsors. A great group activity!
• Packet Pick Up – Greet the athletes and help the Registration team hand out race packets and t-shirts
• Set Up – Help set up the race venue by hanging banners, staging supplies, tents and tables
• Parking – Help athletes and spectators park at the venue
• Transition Area – Write the athletes' numbers on their arms and legs (body marking); ensure that only authorized people are in transition
• Swim Course – Help athletes as they exit the water
• Bike Course – (We call these volunteers “human cones!”) Cheer on athletes and make sure they stay on course
• Water Stops – Mix sports drinks, fill cups with water and sports drinks, cheer on athletes (great for groups! Create a theme and make it fun!)
• Run Course – Cheer on athletes and make sure they stay on course
• Finish Line – Cheer athletes as the cross the finish line; give them medals, water and cold towels; remove timing chip.
• Food & Beverage – Set up the athlete food and beverage area, prep the food, if needed and serve the athletes.
• Tear Down – A critical position! Break down the race venue, take down designs, load the truck
How do I sign up?
Unless otherwise specified on the event website, send an email to volunteer@redlicoriceevents.com.
Tell us what you are interested in volunteering for and your availability and we'll put you to work!
What do volunteers get?
Each volunteer will get a volunteer t-shirt, food and drink, and opportunities to win free race entries or prizes from our sponsors- not to mention our heartfelt gratitude! Students can also receive community service credit for hours volunteered, as all our events benefit a local non-profit organization.
Who can sign up?
Just about anyone can volunteer! If you have physical limitations, please let us know so we can assign you accordingly. Many of our volunteer positions require some lifting of items over 20 pounds. Others can be performed seated.
Children under 18 may volunteer but must have a parent or guardian present at all times.
What about groups?
We love groups! Volunteering with a bunch a friends makes it fun for you and the athletes! There are three big advantages to groups!
- FREE RACES! For every 10 volunteers your group provides, we'll give you one free race entry to a future Red Licorice event!
- FREE SPONSORSHIP! If your organization provides enough volunteers to support a water stop (road race), rest stop (bike race) or tear down, you can add your fliers to our packets and be listed as a race sponsor!
- COOL SHIRTS! Volunteer groups of 24 or more get their OWN, custom volunteer shirts with your group's logo and information!
