Athlete Bio
A recent convert to the Austin triathlon scene, Carol Gibson has been training for and competing in triathlons since March 2008. Like many women, her first triathlon was the Danskin Women’s Triathlon in 2008 and she’s been smitten ever since. The biggest challenge she faces during triathlon season is balancing her passion for the Austin music scene with early morning workouts.

Carol grew up in California as an active tomboy– participating in all kinds of activities from softball to ballet, but her main passion was horseback riding. She competed in hunter/jumper horse shows and exercised endurance horses throughout junior high and high school. During college she was a starting member of U.S. Santa Cruz’s first women’s lacrosse team.

In 1993, with a Bachelors of Psychology firmly in hand, Carol joined the workforce and slowly abandoned her healthy habits. After moving to Austin in Spring of 2007, and having two family members battle and beat cancer, she decided to make some lifestyle changes.

It has taken nearly fifteen years to finally make exercise a priority again. Although she has some challenges ahead before she can meet her goal of a half Ironman, she knows that with the support of her friends and coaches, she’ll cross that finish line.

Carol currently lives in South Austin with her dog, Johnny, and lots of good books.
