Athlete Bio
My name is Carla Uribe. I was born in Mexico but I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. After college, I moved to Austin to work for a company called National Instruments, where I have been working for almost two years now. Before moving to Austin, I went to Georgia Tech in Atlanta, where I earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering. While at Georgia Tech, I ran NCAA Cross Country and Track & Field for four years. I became part of an ACC Conference Champion team and enjoyed competing with some of the most talented collegiate runners in the U.S.
After dealing with various injuries my last two years of college running, I decided to put up my spikes. However, I soon started to miss the competition and with the suggestion of a close friend, I decided to try out a triathlon. With no training and no expectations, I ended up winning my age group. Triathlon had entered my life.
While I started out with mainly local sprints and Olympic distance races my first season, I now have ventured out to do half Ironmans, challenging Olympic and sprint races and my first full Ironman last November 2008. Coming up, I am training for the World Championships 70.3 and then Ironman Coeur d’Alene 2010!
